It was an epic day on the MPH stage as the Primary students proved that “NIS’s Got Talent!” Only in its second year, the Primary Talent Show seems to be meteoric in its growing popularity. With 38 acts, many solo, the day showcased a wide variety of ways that the students demonstrated their passions and talents.

The entertainment started at the very beginning with witty banter between the student MCs, who then cleverly unrolled each new act. The musical acts ranged from pop to classical and everything in between. Many skilled performers played the piano, but the violin acts were also numerous. One student even wowed with a movie/anime medley on the flute, proving that NIS has various skilled musicians!

Musical talent wasn’t the only thing on display. Dance also had its moment on the stage with lively performances that got the students rocking in their seats to favorites like Bruno Mars, feeling the hip hop beats, or visually stunning the audience with graceful beauty through ballet. Oh, the breadth and depth of the talent in the Primary school!

But that wasn’t nearly all of it because throughout the show students displayed a far-ranging amount of talent in different genres. There was… Magic! Comedy! Gymnastics! Skateboarding! There were even visual arts on display through clever means of presenting them on stage - a talent in itself!

Needless to say, it took a fair amount of time to get all these talented performers their moment in the spotlight, but with captivating MCs with their own abilities to amuse the audience between acts, along with some ‘wiggle times’ built in, the show wrapped with adoring crowds clapping wildly for their friends and classmates, showing them that they appreciated not only the skills and entertainment they brought to the stage but also the love and support that everyone needs when they put themselves out there before peers.

Beyond the entertainment and applause, the Talent Show represents something deeper: a powerful demonstration of the Approaches to Learning (ATLs) embedded in the IB Primary Years Program. At its core, the event is a reflection of one of the most crucial skills our students develop at NIS—risk-taking.

Risk-taking is an essential part of learning. In the classroom, students are continually encouraged to step outside their comfort zones—whether it’s tackling a challenging math problem, experimenting with a new artistic technique, or speaking in a language they are still mastering. The IB’s ATLs cultivate this ability by fostering communication skills, self-management, and perseverance, all of which help students build confidence in both academic and creative pursuits.

The Talent Show provides a real-world application of these skills. Standing in front of an audience requires courage, resilience, and a willingness to be vulnerable—traits that are just as important in the classroom as they are on stage. Students learn that taking risks doesn’t always mean getting everything perfect, but rather embracing the process, learning from mistakes, and gaining confidence with each new challenge.

This mindset of risk-taking extends beyond school and into life. Whether presenting ideas in a meeting, expressing creativity in personal projects, or navigating unfamiliar situations, the ability to take risks, adapt, and grow is invaluable. At NIS, we nurture this skill so that students don’t just feel brave enough to perform in a Talent Show but also develop the confidence to step boldly into any opportunity that comes their way.

The Primary School Talent Show is more than an event—it’s a celebration of what happens when students apply their learning in meaningful ways. As they take the stage, they embody the spirit of inquiry, creativity, and resilience that define what NIS is all about.
